LinkedIn Outbound, 2026 Edition
Reply rates above 9% without paying for Sales Navigator or an agency.
A solo founder, freelancer, or indie consultant who treats LinkedIn as a necessary evil. Has tried LinkedIn outreach and gotten ignored. Open to AI workflows but skeptical of automation that triggers spam filters.
The unfair advantage
Most LinkedIn books either ignore 2025-2026 platform changes or push expensive Sales Navigator subscriptions. This book shows the actual reply-rate distribution by industry (Expandi 13.2M dataset), the data on LinkedIn voice notes (+30-40% reply), and the AI-personalization stack that doesn't trip LinkedIn's automation detectors.

--- ## Who this is for You sell B2B. You have a LinkedIn profile with maybe 500-5,000 connections. You have tried LinkedIn outreach and gotten ignored. You are skeptical of automation that triggers spam filters. You want a system, not another "growth hack." This book shows you the 2025-2026 data on LinkedIn reply rates by industry, the voice-note + AI-personalization stack that works, and a 14-day multichannel cadence that books 8-15 calls per week without an agency. If your ICP is below 1,000 LinkedIn users, this book is overkill. If you have already hit $50K MRR with a sales team, this book is too small. ## What you'll have after reading - [ ] A profile that converts visitors into connections (4-line headline formula) - [ ] 8 connection request templates (high-acceptance variants) - [ ] An AI message personalization prompt library - [ ] A 14-day multichannel cadence with email + LinkedIn - [ ] 30-second + 60-second voice note scripts - [ ] A speed-to-lead workflow (5-minute response time) - [ ] A weekly cadence that books 8-15 calls/week - [ ] The Expandi industry benchmark table for your ICP --- # Chapter 1 — The 2026 LinkedIn inbox LinkedIn is the only B2B social platform where decision-makers actively engage with content from strangers. But the inbox is now saturated. Cold LinkedIn text gets ignored 80% of the time. The 2025-2026 data shows the gap between top and bottom performers is widening — same as cold email, but with different mechanics. ## The Expandi 2026 benchmark study Expandi analysed 13.2 million connection requests sent between May 2025 and April 2026 across 13,302 active accounts. The platform-wide numbers: | Metric | Platform average | Top industry (Staffing/Recruiting) | Worst high-volume cohort (Software) | |---|---|---|---| | Connection acceptance | 28.5% | 36.5% | 27.5% | | Connection-request reply | 2.6% | 6.6% | 2.8% | | Message reply | 9.5% | 18.9% | 8.8% | Source: https://expandi.io/blog/linkedin-outreach-benchmarks-2026 Three findings worth pulling out: 1. **Staffing/Recruiting hits ~2x platform average on every metric.** When the platform's purpose and the use case align (recruiters looking for candidates), numbers move. 2. **Computer Software is the biggest cohort and the worst converter.** Software accounts for 14% of all platform volume. Saturated buyers + technical audiences doing relevance screening. 3. **VC & PE punch above their volume.** 34.9% acceptance, 11% message reply rate — investors are unusually responsive. The data also shows that 87% of LinkedIn connection requests include zero personalization. Adding personalization lifts connection acceptance from 5% to 9.36% — a 72% relative improvement. Source: https://blog.closelyhq.com/linkedin-outreach-response-rates-industry-averages-and-how-to-beat-them/ ## Why most LinkedIn outreach fails Four reasons: 1. **Generic copy.** "I'd love to connect" is the most-deleted sentence on LinkedIn. 2. **No multichannel.** LinkedIn-only outreach misses prospects who check email more than LinkedIn. 3. **Bad targeting.** Sending to "any VP Sales" without segmenting by company size, industry, or trigger event. 4. **No follow-through.** Sending one connection request, one message, then giving up. ## What AI changed in 2025-2026 Three things: 1. **AI personalization at scale.** Clay + ChatGPT/Claude can pull a prospect's recent posts, role changes, and company signals, then generate a unique first message in seconds. 2. **Voice note transcription.** Otter, Fireflies, Granola — record a voice note, transcribe, send the text version as a backup if LinkedIn rejects the audio. 3. **Inbox automation with AI reply classification.** Same as cold email chapter 6 — Clay + Make routes replies into CRM, drafts responses. What AI did not change: prospects still want a reason to accept your request. A personalized first line still beats a template by 72%. ## The 30-day outcome target If you run the system in this book for 30 days, here is what is realistic: - 1,000 connection requests sent, 280-350 accepted (28-35% acceptance) - 500 first messages sent, 50-75 replies (10-15% reply rate) - 15-25% positive replies (8-18 booked calls) - 3-8 closed deals in month 1 (depending on ACV) If your ACV is $5K, that is $15K-$40K in new pipeline from 30 days. ## Do this in the next 48 hours 1. Audit your current LinkedIn profile. Take a screenshot of how it looks to a 1st-degree connection who has not accepted your request. Identify the 3 weakest elements. 2. Open the ICP worksheet from the cold email book. Confirm your ICP applies to LinkedIn or refine. 3. Install the LinkedIn mobile app. Voice notes require mobile. --- # Chapter 2 — Profile-as-landing-page Your LinkedIn profile is a 24/7 salesperson. Every connection request, every profile view, every search impression is a touch. Most founder profiles leak signal — they look like everyone else's, so the visitor moves on. This chapter shows you the 4-line headline, the About box, the Featured section, and the experience bullets that turn a profile into a conversion tool. ## The 4-line headline formula The default headline ("Founder at X | Y | Z") is dead. The new headline formula: ``` Line 1: I help [ICP] achieve [specific outcome]. Line 2: Without [common pain point]. Line 3: Used by [social proof: 50+ teams, $10M+ raised, etc.]. Line 4: [Free resource offer or credential]. ``` Example (cold email consultant): ``` I help B2B SaaS founders book 10+ sales calls/week. Without SDRs, agencies, or paying for lists. Used by 50+ indie founders to hit $1M ARR. Free cold email playbook: link.com/playbook ``` That headline does four things in 4 lines: states who you help, what outcome, what they avoid, social proof, lead magnet. Visitors see it in every search result, connection request, and DM preview. ## The About box (the 1,200 characters) The About box is read by ~5% of profile visitors — but those 5% are the ones who clicked. The structure: 1. **Line 1-2**: One sentence on what you do and who you help. Plain language. 2. **Line 3-5**: The pain you solve, stated as a problem the reader recognizes. 3. **Line 6-8**: How you solve it differently. Concrete, not fluffy. 4. **Line 9-10**: Proof — clients, numbers, results. 5. **Line 11-12**: CTA — free resource, book a call, etc. Total length: 1,200 characters. Don't pad. Cut adjectives. Example About box (cold email consultant): ``` I help B2B SaaS founders book 10+ sales calls per week without hiring SDRs or agencies. Most founders I work with tried cold email before. They got 1-2% reply rates, burned their domain, and gave up. The system I built does 8-12% reply rates with one operator, no list-buying, and free tools. In the last 12 months, I've helped 50+ founders book 4,200+ sales calls and close $11M+ in new business. If you're spending >$2K/mo on a sales tool that's not working, grab my free cold email playbook: link.com/playbook ``` That is 850 characters. Tight, specific, proof-laden, CTA at the end. ## The Featured section The Featured section is the most underused real estate on LinkedIn. Pin 3-5 items: 1. **A 60-90 second Loom** introducing yourself and your offer. 2. **A case study PDF** with 1 customer's before/after. 3. **A recent LinkedIn post** that performed well. 4. **A link to your most popular content** (YouTube, newsletter, podcast). 5. **A free tool or template** that solves a small version of the prospect's pain. Each item has a custom title (not just the file name). The thumbnail is the click driver — use a portrait image with 3-5 words overlay. ## The experience bullets For your current role, write 3-5 bullets that focus on outcomes, not responsibilities. Each bullet: "[action verb] + [specific thing] + [outcome with number]." Example: - "Built a 5-agent AI ops stack that handles 80% of customer support, recovering 12 hours/week." - "Closed $400K in new business via a one-person cold email system that books 12 calls/week." - "Hired and managed 3 SDRs in 6 months; replaced with 1 AI agent at 1/4 the cost." Avoid: "Responsible for," "Helped with," "Worked on." These signal staff engineer, not founder. ## The 5 profile mistakes that kill conversion 1. **Stock photo headshot.** A photo of you on a hike or holding a fish. Replace with a clean, professional, well-lit headshot. The face should fill 60-70% of the frame. 2. **Banner image blank.** The default gray banner is wasted real estate. Use a banner with your headline + URL. 3. **Skills & endorsements uncurated.** Remove the top 3 skills that are not relevant to your ICP. Add the 3 that are. 4. **Recommendations are old.** A recommendation from 2018 signals "no recent client work." Aim for 2+ recommendations in the last 12 months. 5. **No activity.** A profile with no posts in 6 months is dead. Post 2x/week minimum. ## The 7-day profile warmup Before scaling outreach, run a 7-day profile warmup: | Day | Activity | |---|---| | Day 1 | Update headline, About, Featured, banner | | Day 2 | Post 1 short text post (insight from your work) | | Day 3 | Comment on 10 posts from people in your ICP | | Day 4 | Post 1 carousel
[Sample chapter — buy the book for the full 30-50 page edition]
